Mental disorders have profound implication on health and well-being not only the individuals with the disorder but also of their families and entire community.The explanatory survey study was conducted with the objectives to identify warning signs of mental illness among general population for early diagnosis and initiation of treatment, in the OPD setting of the selected hospital at metropolitan city.To identify the warning signs, ivoryjinelle.com self reporting check list with questionnaire regarding warning signs of mental illness was used.Data was collected from 300 subjects, by using purposive sampling technique.
Result suggested that 166(55.3%) had normal mental health, followed by 84(28%) turbo air m3f24-1-n with mild degree of mental health deviation, 42(14%) had moderate mental health deviation and 8(2.7%) showed severe grade of warning signs.Subjects those with mild, moderate and severe grades of mental health deviation were referred to psychiatrist for clinical evaluation and diagnosis.
Out of 134 subjects 61 diagnosed provisionally as various types of mental illness, treatment initiated and called for follow up.
